Position Purpose:

To execute RME contract works successfully to achieve the Client’s expectations. To co-ordinate and control all welding

aspects on site and to utilize appropriate knowledge and skill to ensure successful execution of projects by meeting the

objectives of scope, time, quality, cost and production of the project and team.

Position outputs:

• Inform Supervisor/Site Agent of material and equipment needed to complete his job.
• Responsible to complete Welding functions to the required standards and workmanship.
• The welder will be responsible for the structural steel fabrication and execution on site
• Be willing to work away from home/depot.
• Be able to function daily without Supervision and make decisions accordingly without deviating from Transnet policies.
• Ensure production targets are met within allowable team targets and budget.
• Maintain a safe working environment and comply with all safety rules and regulations and fire hazards.
• Responsible to maintain equipment in a good running condition.
• Be prepared to work in adverse weather conditions.
• Responsible for the performance of staff operating machines that require a high level of accuracy and a high level of danger
• such as Grinder Machines and Welding Machines.
• Conduct the daily safety talk on site with team members under his control.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Have a minimum of grade 10 with Mathematics and English.
• At least three years’ experience in the Structural steel fabrication, welding certificates with previous codes which was welded against. As well as proven track record of welds completed.
• Valid code 10 (EC1) driver’s license, with PDP and declared competent to drive a vehicle through RME Driver Assessment Process.
• Without red seal/ or with red seal but will be paid on J2 level.

Competencies:

Knowledge Required:

• Basic knowledge of relevant legislation (Code 29) and other Safety legislation related to Welding.
• Thorough knowledge of equipment to be operated under his control
• A thorough knowledge of industry standards as per structural steel fabrication
• A thorough knowledge and understanding of the welding Specifications and Drawings

• Enthusiasm, Results driven and determination
• Be Safety conscious
• Be able to function daily without supervision and make decisions accordingly without deviating from Transnet policies.

• Be prepared to work in remote areas
• Be medically fit to perform duties
• Must be able to meet and maintain the required production tempo
