Duties and Responsibilities

Depending on the chosen learnership, learners may be responsible for:

• Participating in practical workplace training.
• Assisting qualified artisans and mining personnel.
• Operating and using tools and equipment safely.
• Assisting with the maintenance and repair of mining equipment.
• Identifying and reporting equipment faults.
• Following health, safety and environmental procedures.
• Maintaining good housekeeping in the workplace.
• Completing assigned learning and practical activities.
• Following instructions from supervisors and workplace coaches.
• Complying with mine standards, procedures and applicable regulations.

Minimum Requirements

For the Boilermaker, Fitter, Draughtsman, Diesel Mechanic, Instrumentation Mechanician and Electrician learnerships, the minimum educational requirement is:

• Grade 12
• Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy

For the Learner Miner (18.1):

• Minimum Grade 10/Standard 8 Certificate
• Grade 12/Standard 10 Certificate is advantageous.
• Production Team Leader and mining experience are advantageous.

Applicants must also provide certified copies of relevant qualifications, certificates and licences. Successful candidates must be medically fit in accordance with the Mine Health and Safety Act. Shortlisted candidates may undergo assessments and verification checks.
