Programme Overview
The Student Nurse Traineeship provides comprehensive academic learning combined with practical clinical experience. Throughout the programme, students gain the skills needed to provide quality nursing care in hospitals, clinics, and community healthcare settings.
Graduates who successfully complete the Diploma in Nursing may qualify to register with the relevant professional nursing authorities in accordance with applicable regulations.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet one of the following academic requirements:
Senior Certificate
Applicants must have:
- English HG: D or SG: C
- Biology HG: D or SG: C
- Mathematics HG: D or SG: C
- Minimum M Score of 17
National Senior Certificate (NSC)
Applicants must have:
- English Level 4
- Life Sciences Level 4
- Mathematics Level 4 or
- Mathematical Literacy Level 5
- APS Score of 27 or higher
Please note: Life Orientation counts as half of its score when calculating the APS.
National Certificate (Vocational) – NC(V)
Applicants must obtain:
- 50% in Fundamental Subjects:
- English First Additional Language
- Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy
- Life Orientation
- 60% in Vocational Subjects:
- South African Healthcare System
- Public Health
- The Human Body and Mind

Current Grade 12 Learners
Current Grade 12 learners may also apply provided that their Grade 11 final results meet the National Senior Certificate admission requirements.
