About the Cash Processor Position

As a Cash Processor at SBV Services, successful candidates will be responsible for processing cash deposits and ensuring that cash-related transactions are handled accurately and according to company policies, procedures and service-level agreements.

The role requires attention to detail, accuracy, responsibility and the ability to follow strict Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Participants will receive practical exposure to various aspects of cash processing, including receiving deposits, note sorting, reconciliation, coin processing, desktop deposit processing and cash transfers.

SBV Services Cash Processor Responsibilities

The Cash Processor will perform a range of duties during the 12-month programme.

Receive Cash

Responsibilities include:

  • Receiving cash deposits.
  • Updating deposits on the applicable systems.
  • Following company policies and procedures.
  • Taking appropriate steps to minimise risks to the company and customers.
  • Reporting any issues or irregularities to the relevant supervisor.

Prepare Cash on the Applicable System

The Cash Processor will be responsible for preparing cash deposits for processing.

Duties include:

  • Checking containers and bags for damage or interference.
  • Reporting anomalies to the Team Controller.
  • Acknowledging containers or bags on the applicable system.
  • Processing deposits according to agreed bank SLAs and SOPs.
  • Preparing the workstation for accurate and efficient note counting.

Note Sorting

Participants will assist with sorting and processing notes.

Responsibilities include:

  • Sorting prepared deposits and notes within the required cut-off times.
  • Sending rejected notes to the Reject Teller.
  • Providing relevant PCD cards and deposit slips.
  • Assisting with stop-loss bag verification and balancing.
  • Supporting the reconciliation of deposits.

Reconciliation of Deposits

The role also involves checking and reconciling rejected notes and deposits.

Duties may include:

  • Reconciling rejected notes.
  • Validating relevant information.
  • Manually checking rejected notes.
  • Identifying possible counterfeit notes.
  • Checking for dye-stained notes.
  • Identifying mutilated notes.
  • Performing cash transfers to vaults.
  • Completing end-of-day balancing and reconciliation.
  • Handling shortages and surpluses according to SOPs.

Desktop Deposit Processing

Cash Processors will also be involved in desktop deposit processing.

Responsibilities include:

  • Checking containers and bags for damage or tampering.
  • Reporting anomalies to the Team Controller.
  • Acknowledging containers and bags on the applicable system.
  • Keeping customer deposits separate at all times.
  • Processing deposits on the same day they are received.
  • Processing and balancing deposits on the applicable system.
  • Completing end-of-day cash reconciliation.
  • Handling shortages and surpluses according to company procedures.
  • Preparing deposits accurately for efficient note counting.

Sachet and Coin Processing

The role includes processing and handling coin deposits.

Participants may be required to:

  • Process bulk coin deposits according to SBV policies and procedures.
  • Sort and process teller coin transfers.
  • Follow established cash-handling procedures.
  • Ensure transactions are processed accurately.

Bank System Integrated Deposit Processing

Cash Processors may also work with integrated bank deposit systems.

Responsibilities include:

  • Validating transactions linked to system integrations.
  • Following bank service-level agreements.
  • Informing Client Services when account numbers are not linked to the bank system.
  • Verifying deposit account numbers to prevent losses or incorrect postings.
  • Escalating system downtime and delayed batches to the Team Controller.

Payroll and Change Processing

The Cash Processor may also assist with payroll and change transactions.

Duties include:

  • Processing payroll and change transactions according to customer SLAs.
  • Reporting discrepancies to the Team Controller.
  • Sealing floats in drop-safe bags with the relevant packing slips.
  • Placing floats into trolleys according to customer requirements.
  • Processing payroll entries within required bank SLA timeframes.
  • Reporting equipment defects to the Team Controller.
  • Obtaining bank authorisation before dispatching transactions where required.

Prepack and Treasury

The programme also provides exposure to cash packing and treasury-related activities.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting with accurate packing and unpacking of bank and ATM cash.
  • Managing consumables according to packing requirements.
  • Confirming that bag and seal numbers are correctly recorded.
  • Following all relevant cash-handling procedures.

Equipment Management

Cash Processors are expected to use company equipment correctly and responsibly.

This includes:

  • Using equipment according to Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Taking care of company assets.
  • Reporting equipment defects or problems to the relevant supervisor.
  • Following workplace safety and operational procedures.
