About Steinmüller Africa Apprenticeships

The apprenticeship programme is offered by Steinmüller Africa in partnership with industry stakeholders to train qualified artisans through structured learning and workplace experience.

It focuses on two technical trades:

  • Boilermaking Apprenticeship
  • Welding Apprenticeship

The programme combines theoretical training and practical workplace experience over a minimum period of 36 months.

Apprenticeship Overview

The apprenticeship programme is designed to develop learners into qualified artisans through a structured training system that includes:

  • Industry-standard trade testing

At the end of the programme, successful candidates will qualify as NQF Level 4 artisans in Boilermaking or Welding.


Key Responsibilities and Training Areas

During the apprenticeship, candidates will:

  • Complete merSETA-accredited training modules
  • Gain practical workplace experience in engineering environments
  • Assist with production and site-based tasks
  • Work under supervision of mentors and training officers
  • Participate in assignments and technical development tasks
  • Prepare for and complete a formal trade test

The goal is to produce fully qualified, industry-ready artisans.


Duration of the Programme

  • Minimum duration: 36 months
  • Includes both theoretical and practical training
  • Ends with a recognised trade test qualification

  • Grade 12 certificate OR N2 certificate with results
  • South African ID document
  • Proof of residence (municipal account)
  • Affidavit confirming residence

    • Platers Drawings

Additional requirements:

  • Physically and medically fit
  • Clear criminal record
  • 35 years of age or younger
  • Must reside within 50 km of Kriel Power Station
  • Willing to relocate to Bethal or surrounding areas if necessary
