Job Purpose
The purpose of the General Worker position is to carry out cleaning and refuse-related duties to support the City of Johannesburg’s waste management and environmental cleanliness objectives. This includes maintaining public spaces, streets, and designated areas in a clean and safe condition.
Duties and Responsibilities
Successful candidates will be required to perform the following duties:
- Street cleaning and sweeping
- Cleaning refuse bins and surrounding areas
- Collecting, lifting, and stacking refuse bags
- Delivering and replacing refuse bins
- Lane flushing and related cleaning activities
- Wearing protective clothing and observing safety procedures
- Reporting incidents, injuries, and faulty equipment
- Assisting and engaging with community members when required
