SAPS Security Officer Duties and Responsibilities
Successful candidates will be responsible for safeguarding SAPS premises, staff, and assets. Key responsibilities include:
- Executing access control in line with the Control of Access to Public Premises and Vehicles Act (Act 53 of 1985)
- Conducting positive identification of employees, visitors, and contractors
- Registering and electronically searching visitors and staff
- Issuing and retrieving visitor access cards
- Managing visitor registers and confirming appointments
- Inspecting suppliers, goods, and equipment entering premises
- Controlling admission of vehicles and equipment
- Guarding vehicles and equipment in the field
- Supervising cleaners and maintenance staff from a security perspective
- Conducting patrols of buildings and restricted areas
- Inspecting security equipment and facilities
- Reporting security risks and incidents to senior security personnel
- Assisting other security officers when required
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- South African citizen
- Proficient in at least two official languages, including English
- No criminal record or pending criminal cases
- Willing to undergo vetting, security screening, and fingerprint verification
- Grade 10 / Standard 8 / NQF Level 3 qualification
- Valid PSIRA registration certificate
- Minimum Grade C Security Certificate or higher
- Not declared unfit to possess a firearm
- Willing to undergo firearm competency training and maintain competency
- Willing to work shifts and extended hours
