SAPS Security Officer Duties and Responsibilities

Successful candidates will be responsible for safeguarding SAPS premises, staff, and assets. Key responsibilities include:

  • Executing access control in line with the Control of Access to Public Premises and Vehicles Act (Act 53 of 1985)
  • Conducting positive identification of employees, visitors, and contractors
  • Registering and electronically searching visitors and staff
  • Issuing and retrieving visitor access cards
  • Managing visitor registers and confirming appointments
  • Inspecting suppliers, goods, and equipment entering premises
  • Controlling admission of vehicles and equipment
  • Guarding vehicles and equipment in the field
  • Supervising cleaners and maintenance staff from a security perspective
  • Conducting patrols of buildings and restricted areas
  • Inspecting security equipment and facilities
  • Reporting security risks and incidents to senior security personnel
  • Assisting other security officers when required

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • South African citizen
  • Proficient in at least two official languages, including English
  • No criminal record or pending criminal cases
  • Willing to undergo vetting, security screening, and fingerprint verification
  • Grade 10 / Standard 8 / NQF Level 3 qualification
  • Valid PSIRA registration certificate
  • Minimum Grade C Security Certificate or higher
  • Not declared unfit to possess a firearm
  • Willing to undergo firearm competency training and maintain competency
  • Willing to work shifts and extended hours
