Purpose of the Role
The purpose of the Accountant role is to provide accurate financial information that supports sound economic decision-making within the business unit. The successful candidate will prepare financial reports, support internal controls, and provide performance insights to senior management and external stakeholders.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Month-End
- Prepare accurate and timeous month-end management accounts
- Review financial records and transactions for accuracy
- Compile month-end working papers from start to finish
- Process and reconcile closing stock figures and variances
- Balance stock and reconcile loan accounts monthly
- Assist the Financial Manager with detailed month-end reports
- Analyse monthly cost of sales (COS) per GL vs Weekly Trading Reports
- Maintain provisions, accruals, discounts, and rebate accounts
Management & Reporting
- Report financial performance to senior management
- Compile weekly financial reports and cashflow forecasts
- Prepare ad hoc financial reports for the business unit
Stock Management
Ensure all stock-managed items balance between stock sheets and systems
Oversee and reconcile:
- Dispatch stock
- Production stock
- Maintenance spares
- Workshop spares
Report stock variances to senior management
Controls & Audits
Liaise with internal and external auditors
Conduct surprise depot visits to review:
- Cash handling procedures
- Safe key controls
- Depot return procedures
Review and sign off cashier cash-up reconciliations
Perform spot checks on:
- Van sheets
- Dispatch reconciliations
- Stock movements
- Production stock performance
- Workshop job cards
- Staff ration controls

Other Responsibilities
- Perform full administrative management functions
- Conduct monthly wage reconciliations and input checks
- Handle driver and debtor account queries
- Ensure all reconciliations are completed monthly and cleared
- Assist the Financial Manager with administrative and finance tasks
- Support logistics, stock, accounts, and reconciliation queries
Minimum Requirements
To qualify for the RCL Foods Accountant role, candidates must have:
- BCom or BCom Honours Degree (Accounting / SAICA / SAIPA preferred)
- Valid Driver’s Licence
- Minimum 3 years’ relevant experience in a similar role
- FMCG or food manufacturing experience (advantageous)
- Strong analytical, reporting, and reconciliation skills
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
