About the Financial Accountant Position
The Financial Accountant role focuses on maintaining accurate taxpayer financial records and ensuring compliance with relevant tax laws, regulations, and accounting standards. Successful candidates will be responsible for preparing, reviewing, and analysing financial accounts, performing reconciliations, and supporting audits.
The position serves as a critical link between Account Maintenance, Operations, and Finance, contributing to effective financial management and service excellence within SARS.
Job Purpose
To provide accounting support by coordinating and managing accounting functions, performing accurate account reconciliations, and ensuring the efficiency, effectiveness, and compliance of accounting practices within SARS.
Minimum Functions Required
The successful candidates will be responsible for:

Maintaining financial records including:

Tax returns and assessments

Payments, interest, penalties, journals, and refunds

- Performing independent account reconciliations
- Investigating and resolving routine and complex discrepancies
- Analysing sub-ledger accounts, transactional listings, and Statements of Account
- Identifying discrepancies between internal systems and third-party data
- Monitoring systems to identify defects and ensure corrective actions are properly tested and implemented
